I'm new to this thread and havn't read all 20K posts but I can tell you one thing:

CPQ bought DEC for one big reason. Services. Dell hasn't solved that problem. Where does your revenue come from after the double digit growth stops? Services. DEC has one of the best service arms in the business, and is the #1 reason CPQ grabbed them. CPQ will make this merger work, and will trim a lot of DEC R&D fat as product lines merge, but its the services business where they stand to reap the largest margins and reward.
