I have been comparing Brown and Datek the last few days. Today I found out one difference between the two. With Datek you can only margin borrow to buy stocks. You cannot write a check on margin with Datek. With Brown you can write a check on margin. For example, if you have $10,000 in stock but no cash you could write a $5000 check to pay off your credit card with Brown. With Datek you can't do it. You have to have the cash in your Datek account before the check clears. Thanks, Jon Cave
