IMPROVEMENTS AT AMTD Hey people. I picked up this message from the Yahoo message board (which is, for the most part, a waste of time). Check it out: message from AMTD Mar 11 1998 7:03PM EST First, let me apologize for the delays you have been seeing. This is certainly not what we want for our customers. Unfortunately when the Internet is having problems the phone systems become overloaded magnifying the frustration of the customer. Here is what we are doing to correct the problems. In two weeks we will be moving our database servers from the current single-thread to a Multi-Threading (aka multi-tasking) environment. Currently, the system can only handle one input "query" at a time and this has caused a tremendous slowdown for our fill reports reaching the web. The order is sent to market, and the fill received back to us, in a timely fashion. The problem is in sending the fill data from our market execution system to the database server - there is a line at the door with all the reports trying to get in. With Multi-Threading, we will be able to fit many "queries" through the door at the same time and thus prevent a line from forming. This multi-threading enhancement will occur in the next two weeks. This upgrade alone should take care of the order fill problem. Additionally, in the month of March, we will move all the Quote "queries" from this database server to our web servers. This will eliminate 80% of all the data traffic on the database server and allow more resources in the system to send fill reports to the web. We will also move "Authentication" to the web servers from the database servers. Authentication is what we use to check your account and PIN number when you login to any of our systems online. With the web servers handling this we will free up further capacity in the database server for additional fill report speed. Ultimately, this database server will be completely eliminated and we will be able to increase the overall systems reliability by a factor of 3. Please rest assured that Ameritrade Inc. is fully committed to making your Internet trading experience the best available on the web and we will take whatever action is necessary in order to accomplish this goal, regardless of cost. Thank you for your patience in this matter, Gretchen Ditzler Ameritrade Trade Support tradehelp@ameritrade.com
