Paul, your story reminds me of another:

Ogden Nash-

What's the point of arguing?
If you convince me,
And I convince you.
Would there still not be,
Two points of view ?

Did you see Moneyline last night? They talked about one of my pet-peeves, overpaid and unprofessional analysts. Did you know that these guys get paid over $1 Million a year? And for what? To tout the stocks their bosses are trying to push. Please.

Does anyone on this thread give any credence to an analysts upgrade or downgrade on a stock? Sure, it might move the price for a while, but does it change your buying or selling decisions?

The only reason the analysts are useful at all are for earnings estimates. And even here they tend to be changed based on emotion or conjecture. Take some of the recent decreases in estimates for the deep water drillers by Merril Lynch because of "the decline in price of oil". These guys are supposed to be the experts, but often they are at best behind what the market already knows, and often just plain wrong. How long did it take those fools to lower earnings estimates for the disk drive makers? It wasn't until after the companies themselves lowered estimates. Even then they were slow to come around. And I was basing investment decisions on the numbers these "experts" provided.

$1 Million a year, I can't believe that. Shouldn't someone who saves lives everyday get paid more? (A little melodramatic, but it makes you think doesn't it?) It's a good thing I don't care about money.
