Cruncher - Great to see a positive article on the Jaz2. I just wish all of his positive points were accurate.

Re: Zdnet Jaz2 Reviewer-- Heroin Abuser, or Crack Addict?

At first (after wiping the tears of laughter out of my eyes), I didn't know what could possibly motivate the good people at Zdnet to hire such a writer as the one who wrote this review. I would like to give them the benefit of a doubt, and think now that they have some sort of hiring program for rehabilitating substance abusers. Only with a brain full of chemicals could one realize such observations.

Iomega claims the Jaz 2GB's transfer rates are up to 40 percent faster than those of the classic Jaz, thanks to an Ultra Wide SCSI interface. Although our test results weren't quite so astounding, we did find that the Jaz 2GB outclassed the original Jaz unit by almost 10 percent. And logically, the Jaz 2GB also left the SyQuest SyJet 1.5 behind in our benchmarks. Considering the Jaz costs only slightly more than the SyJet, if speed is your top priority, you're better off shelling out more for the 2GB drive.

Let me get this straight. 5 out of 5 stars because a device that costs 117% more than Syjet is 10% faster? " This next gem tells all:

"...the Jaz costs only slightly more than the SyJet..."

Jaz2= $650 external
SyJet= $299 external

117% is "slightly more?"

I would love to contact this Zdnet writer, and offer him a 1964 Ford Galaxie for only "slightly more" than what I paid for it.
