How we do the MODEL posting: Vector1 and Rocketman are the portfolio ramrods, making all the BUY and SELL decisions in the MODEL. I am the CytoClerk, and have been doing all the MODEL posts since the beginning, 4/9/97. We are approaching our one-year anniversary and have not gone "bust" yet. In fact, times are looking very nice for some of these biotech wonders and even the dogs may start barking! Yahoo quotes is the official quote provider for VD INC. I download the spreadsheet format of my Yahoo portfolio (I change the name of the file from "quotes.exe" to "quotes.csv" so it loads nicely into Excel 7). I link the stock symbol, closing price, and price change into my "proprietary" VD Inc. Biotech spreadsheet. After making any changes for buys or sells, I "sort" the stocks by the gain/loss percent column, so the winners go to the top and the dogs to the bottom. Then, I "copy" and "paste" as a response to one of the lucky thread participants. Some feel it is an honor to receive a posting, especially on an UP day. Others feel receiving a post on a DOWN day can be a character builder. The IXB is the Nasdaq Biotech Index. You can get a quote on it from Yahoo by entering the symbol ^IXB. The Nasdaq web site has more info about the Index. Margin Maintenance Equity % is simply the Marginable Equity divided by the Marginable Stock (times 100 to get a %). Marginable stock can be figured by using the value in the row labeled SUBTOT and subtracting the value of nonmarginable stock (stocks which fall under 4 1/16). Marginable Equity can be figured by using the figure in the row labeled EQUITY and subtracting the value of nonmarginable stock. Buying Power is simply Marginable Equity (defined above) minus MARGIN amount. This number should go negative when Mtce Equity % falls below 50. Margin Interest (7% annual) and Transaction Fees ($10 per transaction) are tracked and will be posted for the twelve months ending 4/8/98. The amount I will charge VD's account is about $8600.
