From the Sable news:http://www.soep.com/nr/pr889478359.html It would be interesting to know when MM Industra gets paid for this. I find it interesting that its called the MM Industra/Brown and Root facility. How much does Eco get paid by Brown and Root to get their name on Eco's yard. Mar 8/98 WELLHEAD JACKETS 'FIRST' FOR NOVA SCOTIA DARTMOUTH, NS _ Months of intense activity will culminate this weekend for employees of the MM Industra/Brown & Root JV fabrication facility when the heavy lift vessel S7000 commences loading the first wellhead jackets and piles for the Sable Offshore Energy Project. Employees have worked around-the-clock since mid-August to fabricate the six-leg jacket for the Venture natural gas field and the four leg unit for the Thebaud field. Jackets are the steel 'legs' which support the drilling platform structures. The $13 million project is the first of its kind for Nova Scotia. More than 5,000 metric tonnes of steel with high strength properties were used to fabricate the jackets, the piles which are the foundation for the jackets and the drive pipes used in drilling operations. The Venture jacket, for example, required 1,620 tonnes of steel to complete. Activities at MM Industra/Brown & Root (MMI/B&R) peaked in January and early February with more than 200 welders, fitters, riggers, carpenters, electricians, crane operators and others working to meet the end of February completion schedule for the mammoth jackets. Employees were supported by more than a dozen sub-contractors and service suppliers. The Venture jacket measures 43 meters from the sea floor to top of jacket and Thebaud 37 meters. The Thebaud wellhead jacket will serve as part of the central offshore facility for the development of six natural gas fields near Sable Island. Drilling operations for the $3 billion project will begin in April. The piles for Venture and Thebaud measure 87 and 89 meters respectively with a seabed penetration of 43 to 50 meters to stabilize the jackets. The drive pipes measure 54 meters. Two cranes aboard the Saipem UK Ltd S7000, with a fully extended height of 166 meters and a lifting capacity of 7,000 tonnes each will lift the jackets, piles and pipes onto the deck of the vessel for installation at the two locations. MMI/B&R Joint Venture Manager Danny Pratt says this is the first time wellhead jackets have been produced in Nova Scotia and commended employees for the quality of their work. MMI/B&R completed the work with one lost time accident in more than 200,000 person hours of work. MMI/B&R will begin work in late April on a $13 million contract to fabricate the topsides (deck) for the North Triumph platform. This module is scheduled to be taken to the North Triumph location in June 1999. MM Industra separately has a $3.3 million contract for fabrication of high pressure gas production separators used in gas processing. ------ Contact: Graeme Connell Danny Pratt or Bill Donlon Sable Offshore Energy Inc MM Industra/Brown & Root JV Tel: (902) 496-0955 Tel: (902) 465-2450
