Bateman,it's the NN-Siemens-3COM deal slowly bearing fruits:

The first of these will be introduced at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany, on March 19.

infoworld.com

There will be something all year here coming out. I was heartened by the close cooperation between Siemens and AT&T ( go to www.Siemens.com ). NN of course is at the heart of it with backbone ATM.My understanding is that Siemens had tried for a couple of years to build ATMs unsuccessfully before turning to NN. Now the 3 of them will provide a world wide end to end solution. When you are looking at a world wide connection I think telco companies like NN have an advantage over Internet Networkers a la CSCO because they can provide better, clearer, more secure connections, which is what phone companies always look for, because of their telco background.
Meanwhile obviously now we got moneys ( US and foreign ) pouting in
and we got the same momentum that has kept this bull market going for 7+ years. I think Siemens and NN stand to benefit because they have wider recognition in Europe is at the beginning of a major bull market this year. All major European Telcos are NN's primary customers
from France, Germany,Switzerland,UK,Fin,Norway, Austria, Spain,Russia, etc.,

CeBIT '98: Internet, voice among key technologies
By GEOF WHEELWRIGHT
For The Financial Post
What promises to be the world's biggest display of information technology, with more than 7,200 companies exhibiting from 59 countries, will take place at CeBIT '98 in Hanover, Germany, from March 19 to 25.
The show for information and communication technologies is set to break records. This year's seven-day event is likely to attract up to 600,000 visitors.
The Internet will be a key theme. The show will feature an "Internet Park" in hall six, with displays from 70 companies involved in the Internet, intranet and extranet sectors, including the leading Internet service providers.
To meet the record demand for display space, the show will be the first to use the vast, new hall 13 at the showground. The venue, covering 24,480 sq. m, claims to be the largest exhibition hall in the world with a clear roof span.
In addition to the broad categories of IT hardware, software and peripheral equipment from 1,600 exhibitors, CeBIT will have specific display areas for key technologies:

Telecommunications (900 exhibitors in six halls). This category will include voice, text and visual communications; modems, video-conferencing systems; ISDN technology; switching systems; cable-based transmission technology and cable systems; media and value-added services; mobile radio services, radio-paging systems; trunked radio services and satellite systems.

Network computing (458 exhibitors). This area will include a network information centre for seminars and equipment presentations. Theme areas include local, regional and wide area networks; Internet-working; value-added services; asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology, and uninterruptable power supply equipment.

Computer-integrated manufacturing, computer-aided design and automatic-data-collection technology (700 exhibitors). This area will also feature global-positioning systems with applications for logistics and distribution; barcode systems; radio data transmission; production-planning controls; virtual reality; finite-element modelling, and rapid prototyping.

Software, consulting and services. With 2,300 companies displaying in this category, this will be the largest exhibit theme of CeBIT. Areas will include systems software; branch- and function-oriented application software; financial services; online systems and application areas on the World Wide Web. There will be a software centre for small- and medium-sized businesses in hall 4.

Office automation, document management and workflow systems. Themed areas will also include mail-handling; dictation, office printing and copying systems; cash register systems; goods-handling; electronic pre-print and desktop publishing systems.

Banking and financial services technology (200 exhibitors). This section will be backed by a varied program of displays, forums, discussions and guided tours.

Security equipment and card technology. More than 200 exhibiting companies will display products such as security software; alarm-and-monitoring systems; access-control systems; back-up computer systems; plastic-card technologies, and applications and services.

Research and development and technology transfer displays from 250 universities, research and industrial groups.
