About the auto industry and comparisons to high tech:
Funny thing is, Ford has had better growth in terms
of sales/share over the last 20 years then some high
tech companies with high multiples. For instance, TXN.

The box makers, like DELL generally have lower
multiples, probably cause they don't have the legal
barriers to entry (patents) that the usual high tech
companies have. If one company figures out a more
efficient way of setting up their manufacturing, they
get copied pretty quick. That's why manufacturing
advantage keeps moving around from maker to maker.
There was a time when DELL was known for just about
the worst boxes in the business. Now their stuff is
okay, I hear.
