Rashley, It is possible for smart institutions like hedge funds, but the great majority buy on upticks and create larger upticks. The traders try to keep the price down, but they are often swinging too much size in too large a hurry to do so. And, they are under pressure from portfolio managers not to let it get away while they are haggling over eighths. As one of my old trader buddies used to moan and groan, "ours is not to reason why, ours is but to sell and buy." MB
