A new idea to push either Syquest or Iomega products.

Anybody knows about labeling of storage media. In particular in the pre press sector the days work is stored on a removable hard disk. Then it is of much importance to make a unique identification on the data media. What do you - or anyone else who read this message - think about a microelectronic index display? Instead of the well known paper label the index information is stored on a chip like that found on a phone card. This chip is mounted on the cartridge. The information could be read out by a flat liquid crystal display. The technical solution of this is very easy, it is very similar to the manufacturing of solar cell driven credit card sized calculators. The additional cost would be $1.
The benefits for the user are:
It puts an end to labels that don't stick, abbreviations that are confusing and handwriting that is illegible.
Please note: It is important that we have near-line storage media which are overwritten many times, so that the label has to be updated very often.
I think, these benefits will have influence on the customers buying decision. Therefore, a storage product which will offer electronic indexing would have market advantages.
