The sky was just beginning to lighten in the east, a velvet softening of the hard black of night. She raised her arms as if to embrace Aurora's promise and tried not to think about the lecture penni had given her yesterday morning on the origin of the word 'orient' -which derived from the present participle of the Latin oriri-to rise..which of course is what the sun does in the east. Rambi had just stared at her until she shut up.
The woman was driving her crazy.

Her thoughts drifted to the events of the past two weeks, to her DryGulch. They had been so close, so close, but yet again, a look across a crowded room was all they were able to share. And not much of a look, quite honestly. She didn't have a great deal of time to think torrid, passionate thoughts with a 600 pound chicken coming at her. And DryGulch sort of ruined the moment when, as their eyes met and her heart began to flutter, he had chugged his cerveza and belched, albeit endearingly.
Where was he now? Was he safe? Was he thinking of her?

The morning paper landed at her feet, interrupting her musings. Her heart leaped with joy and relief when she saw the headlines, her questions answered. For she was only one of a select few who knew the true identity of DryGulch Dan and the nature of his mysterious disappearances. She pressed the article to her abundant breasts, in lieu of the real man, and drew a deep breath, shaky with longing. TO the 007 of her heart, she whispered across the miles, "Someday we will be together again, my DryGulch, someday."
