I would agree with Calculated that buying on rumors is infact a bad mistake, one that usually doesnt play out. I would strongly advise AGAINST buying on rumors. Most of the time, they dont play out. Sometimes they do, Alex Brown, Money store, etc. The risks of buying solely on rumor is far too great.....

Do, though, your research and evaluate a company's prospects, its management, fundamentals, technicals, and potential as a target in a takeover....That is prudent investment strategy regardless of the stock.
