There would seem to be a connection between Mav's post and the press release. For example, Maverick wrote:

Users will need to deploy ASND DSL pipe at their sites to use these [UUNET-ASND/TNT] services.

The UUNET press release (without mentioning ASND) states:

By simply switching the customer premise router, customers can immediately utilize the higher 768 Kbps bandwidth.

In other words, both Maverick's post and the UUNET press release discuss the requirement of new user router equipment so that the UUNET DSL service can be accessed.
