Hi space cadet:

Since you are an EE, there exists actually a nice
magazine, called IEEE Communications Magazine, which
is published by the IEEE Communications Society.
Over the last 2 years, it has had survey articles
on broadband wireless, satellite communications, wireless
LANs, fiber networks, etc... It is not a scholarly journal,
so it is readable by regular EEs. It is also less boring
than most IEEE magazines.
