Database software company Sybase forecasts slow software market conditions in the next two years, mainly because of the "millennium bug" and Asia's financial crisis, chief executive Mitchell Kertzman said last week.

In an interview, Kertzman said spending new information technology has suffered due to the allocation of companies' budgets on year 2000 computer bug compliance, while the currency turmoil in Asia has hit spending in the region.

"I think those market conditions will be around for another year or two," Kertzman said before giving a speech to the PC IT'98 conference in Sydney.
