Pravin,
Methinks that the chip will be a G3, not a G4. I don't think a next generation chip on par with Merced using a superior fabrication technology is going to be running at a pokey 400Mhz. Anyone care to place a wager on this? We'll all find out on Tuesday.

I would also like to add that in the discussion of the G4 I forgot the entire issue of VMX, AIM's answer to a much hyped MMX. I remember reading that Quickdraw3d got a 5-6 times speed boost running under this new instruction set. Who needs a DSP (Trimedia) with this kind of performance?!

Licking my lips in anticipation,
RyanF

Pravin the 3/17/98 demo highlights copper PowerPC tech

The 400mz speed is incidental as the feature is the small factor , low power copper based PowerPC chip and its coming availability in faster chips .

Conversely I would be impressed by INTC if they "application demoed" a Merced chip on or before that day , and concerned if they were about to ship them .

Relevant to AAPL's stock is that its price is approaching the bondholders $28/shr conversion option . Not to worry though .

If there are any not converted already , their conversion will relieve AAPL of approximately $70 mln per year in interest expense , and though mildly dilutive they leave behind $1 bln CASH for the privilege .

Should help bring about a AAPL Blossom Spring
