"Media Notes: What is going on at CNBC? During the day
Tyler Mathisen says that he's heard from Maria Bartiromo
that market rumors of an imminent Fuji Bank failure were
sweeping trading desks. This age-old rumor has stirred for
years in the market, not unlike the rumors of Citicorp's
imminent demise that peppered barroom conversation in the
early 1990s.

Just after the report, a Fuji Securities spokesman called the
rumors "totally erroneous" in a Reuters dispatch. And talk of
that Fuji rumor quickly died on CNBC.

Fuji Bank is not King of Prussia Savings & Loan. This is a
major league bank. It seems strange that CNBC feels
comfortable saying that big Fuji Bank is tumbling. There is
news about Fuji. They closed a four-person office in
Boston..."
