The "Investment FAQ" (can't remember the URL off the top of my head) recommends max 20% (wish I'd live by that myself - would sure limit my losses)

freeus: I would say 75-100 % would be 'heavily margined'. If you are asking for investment advice from me, I am hardly qualified to do so. Perhaps someone here, is better qualified than I am, will offer you some and besides it is better to take your own advice than anybody elses' as you know your 'situtation' better than anyone else, I would think.

I would say that being heavily margined is totally based on the maximum amount allowed by your broker. If you come close to their maximum, you are heavily margined. I use E*Trade, and can go on margin as much as 60%. I would be crazy to do that, but I could.
