Has anybody heard of a proposed NASDAQ / Am. Stock Exchange Merger??

(Talk on the news today)
My idea, if true, is that they may be trying to consolidate
investors interest into a smaller overall pool of stocks
because things really can't get much better than this.

More people are in the market than ever before and seem to be
comfortable with what they have in, "as long as the market goes up".
If there is something of a mass exit as people change their minds
it may be a rather strong one leaving people with not too much
for any re entry (for the real bills they have been accumulating
that must be paid for with $$$ they'll have to earn "pumping gas").

A merger to me suggests "the market" is trying to extend
"the good times" as long as possible. Whether this is really
good or not, I don't know, I just assume that if they loose
control it will be a bigger swing backwards.

It sure has me wondering what to think, because the people up top
seem to have "some" ability to steer things the direction
they want. So much for guessing when things are going to change.
(And maybe, What will they think of next?)

Can anyone verify this merger proposal?

Dave
