By the way, MERCED the almighty chip from Intel has retuned its architecture to optimize running Java. Merced will be running enterprise applications that utilizes Java. Microsoft has spend a tramendous amount of effort to "steal" Java technology away from SUN and co by introducing a set of tools that basically replaces C++/Visual basic. It even begin decided to bury its own ActiveX technology once their weapon in the war against Java, in favor of Java --- albeit its own version. And you think Java would not dominate? Intel and Microsoft has basically been a tramendous force in Marketing Java. Java domination is already among us. BTW, here is my take on the Microsoft deal. They are missing the point by introducing their own version of window specific Java. Java is about enterprise. Enterprise is about making all different kinds of computer working together from sub $1000 PC to multi million dollar mainframes. Microsoft is basically shooting themselves in the foot and kicking themselves out of the enterprise market (well, limiting themselves to the low end anyway). Watch for the announcement for SUN next quarter ... there should be a bunch of Java related product coming out. - Chung >>> I hope you are right. I stand corrected, but I still think that Java is a pioneering technology, and the world is awash with the dead bodies of companies and systems that went against the WintelCo consortium.. I predict Java will work but not dominate, NC's will be a bit player, Sun will make money on it's excellent servers, and the Wintelco monopoly will only get stronger. Java is a bit iffy right now IN BROAD acceptance, and will have good but limited success. I honestly believe that. We'll see Let's convene in 2 years in this thread, as we'll talk about it OK ? <<<<
