Lovedell, like the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". But I think that Compaq's product delivery system is clearly broken, and they little choice but to fix it. And their customer service reputation stinks.

When I shopped computers for my business I was very put off by Compaq's reputation for poor customer service. I frankly don't care how cheap the machines get, or how reliable they are out of the box. No service == no business!
