Mark, I don't wish to argue with you either. You also need to realize that Sybase has extensive middleware capabilities that allows a broader solution set than Informix. I am sure that if all Sybase sold was databases you'd see everything tied to the DB kernal like Informix. The Jaguar CTS technology provides Sybase a broader solution set. Jaguar can be utilzed through the Adaptive Server Enterprise DB's component integration services layer.

As others on this thread have pointed out datablades limit the usage of the Informix ODS database to a particular type of application. Also, as see it a datablade can't invoke/call another datablade. There is no detailed information I could find. Datablades are single components within the server kernal. That can dictate the type of application for which optimal DB performance is achieved?

Please answer these questions if you know the answers:
Can a Datablade run outside or without the DB server?
Can a Datablade run in the middle tier or on a client?

If the answer to these are no, then Datablades don't offer the tier and platform independence of Java. This also provides Informix no advantage over Sybase's leading technology. Java database capabilities are currently being used in the Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0 beta.
