AVEI/ABMI.

Jeff, could you answer this for me?

I thought those two companies are doing something similar.
Maybe you can tell us about it.

I have been buying ABMI since early this week.

Cordis Corp. news but significant to ABMI !!!!

MIAMI (BW HealthWire) - Cordis Corporation, the world leader in advanced devices for cardiac catheterization, today announced that its new CHARGER(tm) PTCA dilatation catheter has become the fastest-selling device in the company's angioplasty portfolio.
"No other balloon catheter offers the variable compliance needed so that a single catheter can be used for both standard angioplasty and more challenging advanced interventional procedures," said Steve Schiess, Cordis' Vice President for Cardiology Sales and Marketing. "CHARGER is an exceptional product that applies the best in Cordis' proprietary designs and materials to set new standards for clinical efficiency."
Since the initial introduction of CHARGER in September 1997, the catheter's sizing flexibility has made it the new cath lab "workhorse" for both standard angioplasty and advanced interventional
procedures -- rocketing the device to 40 percent of Cordis' product mix.
Interventional physicians need to be able to control balloon growth in order to open vessel blockages of unknown morphology at safe, low pressures. In addition to conventional angioplasty, physicians often need to open arteries for delivery or insertion of interventional devices, such as stents.
"Thanks to CHARGER's proprietary DURALYN(r)XP balloon material, this device provides combination compliance on a single catheter," said Sam Liang, Cordis' Director of Cardiology Marketing. "With a rated burst pressure on most diameters at 18 atms., the balloon reaches the ideal 1.1:1 balloon-to-artery ratio at just 17 atms. This allows us to provide a catheter to our customers that is effective and efficient in all types of lesions."
The CHARGER catheter is available in 2.5 - 4.0mm balloon diameters with quarter sizes -- and 10,15, 20, 30 and 40mm balloon lengths. Its FLXTaper tip is thermally molded for enhanced rackability and crossability, permitting physicians superior access to blockages in tortuous vessels, and allowing them to cross and recross previously implanted stents (miniature scaffolds that hold coronary arteries open).
In addition to the functions already mentioned, CHARGER is a key component within the system of products used as a predilatation balloon to enhance the deliverability of the PALMAZ-SCHATZ(r) CROWN Stent, a new non-articulated design engineered to achieve pristine angiographic results.
Since its establishment in 1959, Cordis Corporation, along with its subsidiaries, has been a pioneer in vascular disease management, and is the world's largest, most comprehensive developer and manufacturer of innovative products for cardiology, endovascular medicine and electrophysiology.
In 1996 it merged with Johnson & Johnson to form Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson company with approximately 5,000 employees worldwide.

NEWS: ABMI balloon catheters are at least equal or superior in quality .Please see my previous post. But the bottomline is that this sector is real hot and ABMI products by no means are outdated even though it takes a lot of time for FDA approval....This post though not ABMI news is meant to indicate the popularity of various balloon technologies. ABMI's trump card lies in being an OEM manufacturer for other small companies like Polamedco who will take on the big guys. Never know these days it could be David vs Goliath.

Regards,

Sri.
