Hi Gator.....By jove, I believe you are correct :-)

I just sent a copy of sly's "explaination of hotnotions" to Bill, Sue, Ron, Joe, and David at CNBC..... I also suggested that John Bollinger could even have some fun at work with hotnotions :-)

First off I had a chance to report
some minor improvements to SYD programmers
today concerning hotnotions. This is
the Beta version. They will be acting on
our suggestions and also opening up the groups
soon.
Hotnotions provides 4 tools into 1 package
from what I see.
1) Alert Messaging. This is the easiest feature
to use and works wonderfully. You can
send an alert message to someone inside your group
or all the members at once and instantly no matter
what weg page they are at,,they will get
you message in their screen and be able to
reply. Only suggestion I made was to remove
the original message as right now after
replying the original message stays on your
screen so you have to hit close to get rid of
it. It becomes cumbersome if you get more
than one alert message at a time and have
to close each one. So an automatic close
feature once a reply is sent would
be good.
2) A virtual Real time Chat Board.
The Hotnotions icon sits on the task bar
for Windows 95 users. If you drag and drop
a note on a page you have instantly
created a message board. You can then compose
information within this note/board.
If other users are in the group and at the same Webpage they also will see the note and
be able to chat with you. ie. real time chat. Be aware
that the note
itself is moveable. So it doesn't have to stay
in the middle of the page. I tend to move it
to the upper right hand corner big enough
to read the messages but small enough that
it doesn't impact the view of the webpage.
One of the problems is that if there are
many users at one time chating inside this
note..only one person can post at a time.
This prevents too many notes being flashed at
once but also means that you have to wait
for the other person to finish composing
and distributing before you can start typing.
it also explains why the flash light
is used changing colours from green to
yellow to red. Another problem we encountered
last night is if the note gets too large you
start losing information. There is a 5k
limit per note right now. The real version
will rectify this problem.
3) bulletin Board...by droping a note
on a site. If other's don't want to post
immediately and have a live chat the note
becomes a bulletin board. You can add a message
within it at a later in time. in fact
by using explore notes feature you can
see all the notes that have been created within
a group and add your own notes(time stamp
them) and all whenever you want. So it
becomes a chat board like stockhouse but
is placed on the webpage you choose.
This is a very good feature..especially when
they open up the groups and passwords are
required. By dropping a note at a companies
URL the company could make use of a virtual
message board over their website without
having to instal a chat board. As mentioned
above it can also become live chat when
multiple users are there at one time.
4) Navigational..when you drag and drop
a note. Go into the note and click alert
message within the note. this will
send the URL to the members of the group.
They can now click go to URL and they will
automatically be sent to the URL you just
placed your note to engage in live chat there.
Very usefull for group research purposes and
group surfing.

Overall, I like the product.
There are some improvements required. But I
see a lot uses for this amongst both Business
and Personal Users. The multi features are what
makes it special and distinguises it from the
others in this field.
