Sorry it's taken so long to return your message. I remain a long term holder of SRR because of its name brand, contract shoe mfg, and "good" mgmt.

I was fooling around on the Internet today and ran across some excellent historical info on SRR. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Thanks in advance

PRO-KEDSr

During the 1960's, the name "PRO" was applied to the athletic, sports-oriented "sneaker" products of the original Keds line. Through the late 1970's, PRO-KEDS was the footwear of choice for professional athletes in virtually every major professional sport, from Basketball and Baseball to American Football and Professional Tennis. The Stride Rite Corporation acquired PRO-KEDS, as well as the Keds, Grasshoppers and Sperry Top-Sider footwear trademarks from UniRoyal in 1979.

Today PRO-KEDS has become a successful and distinct business in its own right, and is best known in Japan and in Latin America as a leader in athletic and active casual footwear. PRO-KEDS offers a complete line of fashionable, easy-to-wear sneaker styles that reflect its authentic American heritage, and contemporary, urban styling. Thirty years after its creation, PRO-KEDS is poised to step into the 21st century, continuing to build on its position as an authentic and original American sport casual brand.

I did not know that Uniroyal built Keds into the powerhouse of the 1960s. Apparently, the Adidas, Nike invasion of the athletic shoe market during the 1970s caused Uniroyal to sell the Keds brands to SRR. Now, 20 years later, SRR is at the crossroads with Keds, either do something a la Jacobson's designs or let it whither away.

Its encouraging to see SRR show up on the radar screens of alot of brokerage houses. The brokers have finally saw the light. But at the same time SRR is becoming socially acceptable, it's stock price is languishing.

Remember, SRR has shoe mfg contracts with NineWest, Levi's, Tommy Hilfiger, and others. These contracts have been the source of sales and profit growth over the last 2 years and appear to be reasonably stable business. I believe the reason for a low stock price is --THE SHOE BUSINESS IS UNSEXY. Even so, I will continue to hold this increasingly profitable company in my account.

P.S. here is another Wall Street recommendation
