Arnie:

I believe we are within weeks of a major breakout in Nextel. The last several days the stock has been moving up and down on very low volume with little conviction in either direction. There has been no evidence of any large blocks trading and the action represents a sequence of relative small trades. In all probability these are day traders trying to make a one half a point a day. Those half points add up to a nice piece of change if you are trading thousands of shares and make several trades a day.
Getting back to the breakout. I believe the positions have been taken and investors are waiting to move past triple witching next week. After next Friday, we will have the first quarter add ons in less than two weeks. If they are anything close to the numbers you are indicating, nxtl with move thru 32 easily.
I am inclined to believe the numbers are excellent. I spoke with a Nextel rep today about signing on to the new plan and during our discussion I asked if the 40% savings offered would effect revenues. Point blank, nextel could not keep up with the demand for the units. He also stated that they were moving into the white collar area in a big way. The number of the units added will more than offset the discounts. Also, as I examined the plan, they are lowering the price of cellular and increasing the price of units that use direct connect only. They are structuring their pricing so that all units will have direct connect and cellular. Bottom line, ARPU will not suffer. High ARPU and lots of new radios spell breakout.
