NPNG...Thanks for your input. Is the shutdown a sure thing? I haven't read about it anywhere. What % of production would you guess this will reduce total. I can see some +'s here as long as your employees don't get too nervous. What is the attitude with that respect? Thanks
Steve

NPNG -- I asked in a previous post and will repeat it now -- where or how did you get this information. I'd like to verify. Otherwise, I'd have to believe that it's total bs or disinformation. Sorry for the distrust but there's a lot of garbage out there. dp

Looked in your profile which I should have done before i berated you. Looks like you are in a position to know. Will yo be on sabbatical or what will happen during the close-down? dulane

NoPainNoGain, welcome to the thread. Just out of curiosity, did the earnings warning take you by surprise?

NPNG...Are there different entities producing
different products?
Do they work on common mfg models?
Is the mfg process linear?
How will you handle this from your supply side?
What is the average lead time from suppliers?
Ramp up and ramp down times, if linear production model?
How does the shut down affect supplier deliveries?

Has a shut down such as this happened before?
I imagine CPQ has self directed work cells.
Internal reaction?

How does CPQ's ELM play into this situation?

Sorry for so many questions...

Loki

WELCOME TO THREAD, NPNG

NoPain: Some time ago I posted a question to the thread that was not answered, and think that maybe you might know. The question was in regard to manufacturing facilities. I have been reading that Dell is building an entirely new manufacturing campus in Austin, and will also be looking at building in China. Compaq on the other hand, never seems to talk about their facilities. My understanding is that Houston is pretty much the whole ball of wax. Is this true? I do know that they had their first Cyrix based PC built by FIC. Does this type of manufacturing loom larger in their future, and do they have enough expansion room in Houston to meet their future needs?

Thanks,
John
