Anderson warned to "expect lower quarter (Q1 to Q2) sales".

I wouldn't take Anderson's word for it; or, I wouldn't assume that lower sales will mean a loss for Q2.

In December 97 (I think it was) Apple put out a press release saying that sales would be significantly lower that quarter. A lot of news outlets somehow interpreted that as a negative earnings pre-announcement, even though the press release never said anything about earnings. And we all know how Q1 turned out.

My sense is that Apple has gone from making optimistic predictions and then under-delivering to making cautious statements and over-delivering. Basically they've grown up.

Thanks for your response to my earlier questions, btw.

(Off topic: Sorry to hear you got beaten up on COSFF. I looked at buying that stock when it was at $6, but fortunately didn't have any spare cash at the time. I don't see how CorelDRAW can compete with PhotoShop/Illustrator now that Adobe is so serious with its Windows versions, or how WordPerfect can compete with MS Office, period).

"I've found their figures outrageously optimistic. Anderson warned to "expect lower quarter (Q1 to Q2) sales". Yet, they have repeatedly posted some projections in which sales are actually higher, or alternatively sales somewhat lower but with higher earnings that Q1 (yeah right)"

Alomex, did you ever read my Q2 estimate?! My projected revenue IS lower than Q1. Read it again and let me know how 1420 mil is higher than 1578 mil... macevolution.com

Phillip's 1.8 bil sales projection is too optimistic for my taste but at least he states his reasons for that projection. I agree with most of the issues Phil pointed out and their positive implications, however I don't believe they are significant enough to bring about the 1.8 bil sales...That's just my opinion so who knows?

You've never quite explained the reasoning behind your projected loss in Q2. We had a discussion over this very topic at the end of Jan. Even with YOUR projected sales etc I still came up with AAPL turning a small profit. After a half dozen posts, your argument sounded rather vague and seem to change from one post to another. Eventually the subject was finally dropped..Anyways..I'll dig that thread up and see if others here with better reading comprehension can understand your logic.
