I'm becoming dependent on cm's wit in the morning. Please keep it coming, anonymous or not. The netscape news is interesting because of the way it groups the industry. Notice how yhoo and xcit were grouped with aol, while seek and lcos were called mere search engines? Has a schism developed in the industry that has separated media cos from search engines, and we find seek in the latter?

At first blush, this may seem insulting. On further reflection, however, this may mean that while xcit and yhoo aspire to loftier goals, seek and lcos will be left with a niche to fill, and perhaps what this really indicates is that the big guys have abandoned the search engine business and left it to the little guys, who can now find greater prosperity in a field where 75% of the competition has moved up and away?
