<<CSCO: COWEN & CO. reconfirms the recommendation as Strong Buy on 03/11/98 CSCO: UTENDAHL CAPITL reconfirms the recommendation as Strong Buy on 03/11/98 HUGH... and everyone else. You see, if YURI could get these kind of reccommendations it would indeed take off.>> Gary, Well, Gar, you have managed to stumble on a problem that Yurie has, in a bass-ackwards sort of way. Most of the noteworthy firms that follow Yurie have strong buys on it, if I'm not mistaken. This is a problem. If you've already got a strong buy on something, all you can do is re-iterate. Re-iterating on Wall Street does not move a stock like raising (an opinion). Now, there is a trump card here, and that is Merrill Lynch. Their analyst who put out the opinion on Yurie is an associate analyst, a secondary analyst. Joe Bellace is the guy who is making the real decision. He is the most risk averse analyst on Wall Street, meaning he never sticks his neck out for any company. He is a fence sitter. He has no #1 (strong buy) opinions on anything ever!...relatively speaking. Here though, with this "neutral" #3 rating, he is leaving the door open to a rate increase. The shorts love #1 ratings...they hate #3 ratings....the reason..the #1's can't hurt them...the #3's can kill them if increased. There was an old joke about "What do you get when you mate an elephant with a poodle?......answer: A dead poodle with an 18 inch a**hole." (Don't mean to be crude, sorry)..but the moral of this is if Yurie does something good, like get a new account, or win RBOC business, or..."something!" like Gary said....the shorts are gonna feel like the poodle in the above referenced joke, after Merrill simply raises it to a #2 "Buy" rating...and I assure you, if the stock breaks to 24, Merrill will raise their opinion, and the poodle will be in deep kimshe. There's 13,000 Merrill Brokers ready to buy 500 shares each if the analyst says the word....There's just no downside here, and it's like standing next to a dry pile of wood with a match. It's not a matter of if, but when....Tek
