He only raised Cain if he was Able.

>>As a child, I always used to wonder who Cain married, and where she came from.

I don't know what her name was as a child, but as an adult she gained notoriety as Iphagenia Schwartz (Little Iffy).

May the Schwartz be with you.

Janice, good question. I don't have the answer. I used to wonder that also. But the Bible says that Cain's punishment for killing Abel was to be "a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth". After that conversation with God, it says "And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden." The very next verse is "And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch.." I would guess that between those two verses a lot of time could have passed, but anyway it seems apparent that the wife would have had to be a descendent of Eve; perhaps Eve's daughter, which would of course be Cain's sister. Obviously when they were starting with a small number, there was quite a lot of incest, without harmful effect back then. It would be nice to have more details of that early time, but we have what we have, and evidently more detail wasn't felt necessary.

Isn't it great how children can ask straightforward questions, and isn't it sad how adults give evasive answers? Bible believers, of course have no good answer to this question. You are asked to take certain things on faith, which is a copout. They haven't the guts to say " I dunno, you've got a good point".

The correct answer is that the Bible was written by men, and is mostly mythology dreamt up to explain things that were unknown at the time, (for instance how seashells were deposited high on a mountain). There was no Adam and Eve. There was no Noah's Ark. There was no Cain and Abel. You will get no sensible answers from the parrots.
