>>And what about what Nintendo is now doing to Sony? N64 outsold Playstation in spades last year and now has an installed base nearly that of Playstation, despite a lack of games.<<

I don't know if this is true or not (N64 outselling Sony Playstation). However, if it is, it just goes to prove my point even further. High tech equipment is easily discarded and replaced. Zip is no exception. Any device that would enable backward compatibility with 1.44MB floppies, and still be faster than Zip will do well.

You know what? I think I would have already replaced my E-Mu sampler's floppy drive with a Zip if only it could read 1.44 floppies. In the music world, data is still distributed on, and the system OS is often booted off of the 1.44 floppy. Zip is simply not economical enough to distribute the data and OS. Just too expensive with individual discs retailing for $13 or so.

"But wait!" You say. "Ls-120 has been out, it is floppy compatible, and it hasn't been adopted by these machines!"

Your right. Ls-120 is way too slow. Everyone knows this. I would be waiting around all day because banks in my sampler can be as large as 32MB. However, Sony HiFi is supposed to be floppy compatible, AND FASTER THAN ZIP. I would rather put the Sony HiFi in my sampler than a Zip.

BTW, I received an N64 for Christmas from my girlfriend. Cool machine. But I still think that Sony Playstation outsold them due to way more games available. Anyone have any reliable sales figures for video game systems last year?
