You don't read me wrong. I don't think that thin clients are appropriate for general-purpose workstations used by office workers. I think that a networked PC will continue to be appropriate for that.

For some single-purpose workstations, yes, thin clients could be appropriate. These would typically be applications where dumb terminals are used today, where a narrow range of tasks, typically custom applications that access a database.

If you need to do general wordprocessing and spreadsheets, etc. you are much better off doing that on a local computer and reducing the load on the LAN. The remote admininstration issues are being worked out, and Windows98 and NT 5 are going to alleviate a lot of those headaches.
