Nick, no need to be too pessimistic about ATML. It was trying hard to stage a breakout about a week ago but unfortunately the attempt was aborted by the Intel's and Cpq warnings. In sympathy almost all semis dropped with Intel.

Now, if atml can go pass $16 in the next few days, we'll be in the game again and retry the breakout at 17 1/2 ! Otherwise retesting of $14 something to form a double bottom is also highly likely. Personally I think the probability of going up is a bit higher.

Hi Nick -- sorry for the delay but I went to Portland and the coast for little vacation. It seems I can't leave town without Atmel sliding lower. Now it's in the 14s. Frankly, I don't know if new acquisitions, its new factory, or anything else it does will help in the short term. Long term, I see a good future for this company: it keeps developing new and better products and, despite some of the gloom on this thread while I was gone, I see Atmel either being bought or turning its earnings around over the next year. Short term it's searching for its low; hence, the move back into the 14s (and maybe lower?). It will take something dramatic to turn its direction quickly. Otherwise, it will build a base, and move up from there. Thread entries after yours indicate other folks' thoughts on how low it could go; I HOPE it doesn't go to 4 or even 8, but when the market decides to collapse, Atmel could join in. You and I seem both to be long-termers. I just hope it isn't that long a term. Cheers/t
