Bernie, The Src kinases have been around for quite some time. Actually the src kinase was the first oncogene identified under Nixon's War on Cancer, so maybe he should get the credit. Actually, Joan Brugge of ARIA did muuch of the seminal work on src, but that was long before its role in signal transduction was known. Harold Varmus, who heads NIH, also did quite a bit of early work also (in collaboration with Mike Bishop).
