Frank,opinions solicited:
In my opinion averaging down would be a mistake.Consider the following .
1. Even before the loss of Corning, first call lowed SPTR 1st Q earnings to .09.
2. I still haven,t heard that the new capacity is operatio0nal.It was supposed to be on stream in Jan.
3 Because of the new LEAF technology, their new and old equipment may be obsolete, which may change their book value.
4. In spectrans latest news release they didn't dwell on their optical fiber manufacturing but emphasized (sp) their specialty fiber and cable
div. products.
5.Contrary to what was said on this thread some time ago,the joint venture with GC is not going well.SPTR themselves said this.
6 In my opionion, the old boy network at SPTR needs to be broken up and new management with new ideas and direction needs to be put in its place.SPTR should not try to compete in a very competitive optical fiber market with giants such as Corning,Lucent,Philips, and others.Like Galileo, when they lost their large contract with Kodak,SPTR should find a nitch in the specialty fiberoptics market and invest in their specialty division. The internet is making this a very lucrative industry. This is where Lucent is making a killing.
Good Luck
.
