I enjoyed the poetry and respect your caution and profit taking on Neo, but please allow me to make a case for magic in the next 2-3 Q.

Let's look at what factors a notebook manufacture must consider in deciding what video chip to use, and why Neo does not provide desktop video. Neo's primary advantage is in power consumption and size which are non-issues in a desktop. Neo claims and many notebook reviews show that 128series uses much less power which means that users can stay away from the socket an hour longer or they can have a smaller battery and machine. Neo's performance lead has diminished, but their new entry level 128zv+ provides video capture and TV output. I use a notebook with the 128XD and have been very impressed. I will continue in another message.

The notebook market is expanding by 20% per year and Neo has been expanding market share. They currently have the best balance of cost, size, performance, and power use. They are fabless, which minimizes production risks. Need more- contract more supliers. Sales have been racing as new models using Neo chips are winning awards and replacing pre-neo models. IBM, DELL, Compaq, NEC, Digital, Sony, Gateway, Toshiba, and others use Neo in some of their notebooks. Dell uses Neo exclusively. Intel is not a current risk, although they recently released a desktop video chip 740i. This is not a notebook chip, but you can bet the farm that they are working on one. When it does arrive, it will take a new product cycle to be incorporated, just as it did with Neo. Threats are a few Q's away. Market share will plateau, but the overall demand will increase. In the latest reviews, other chips have matched performance level, but not overall value. Other chips offer more memory, but 128XD has 65k colors at 1024x768. Even with active display, viewing angle is more important to color perception than 24million colors. New 128 models will be pin-compatible with the old, making it easier to stay with Neo than to use a different chip. Video capture has added to low end 128ZV+ and should be just around corner for high end 128XD. Full screen video from cd-rom amazed me on new Dell. Outlook is good , but it is always risky to invest in a company with only one product line.

vincenzo-
Before the days
of markets made of stock
A man pressed out a book
about a windmill
which spun like a clock.
Though its job
was to turn
wind into power
A poor soul of a chap believed
he was its target
And its purpose
him to devour.
So armed in thought
he saw what he projected
and jousted
with windmills...

Cervantes- 'Much of sanity may be madness, but the maddest of all,
to see life as it is and not as it could be!'

I have enjoyed, and I thought benefited from your posts the last several weeks. I also, after much research, and enthusiasm from this site loaded heavily into NMGC. Correct me if I be wrong, but until very recently you were a staunch advocate of being Neo long?

What does your future thought foresee, gloom and doom, or merely a snowfall of information, momentarily weighting down a solid tree?

Sir...
