To All - Ignore SirAlex

For the sake of this thread, we should resolve to absolutely ignore SirAlexx. His drivel should get no response. I am sorry to have to post this in contradiction to my own suggested policy.

The SGS-Thomson new chip may have been necessary to correct an erosion in market share.

I haven't been able to confirm this, but I believe that ST supplies Japan Radio Corporation with GPS engines. JRC supplies Alpine, which had supplied Bosch before TRMB snagged Blaupunkt (Bosch). Alpine has suffered a decline in units shipped last year from 160,000 to 120,000. According to reports, this was due to a stale product. The new chip should, obviously, be more competitive.
