To All: This news seems like Alcatel may be headed to dominate the wireless local loop by joining this new consortium. With Alcatel doing 50 % of the switch business in China and 40 % in Indonesia and Siemens doing 40 % of Asia they own most of the market. Most of the people in these areas have never made a phone call. I wonder if this new tech will be used in the planed Sky Bridge Satellite System proposed for the year 2000 ? Does anybody else have any idea of Alcatels plans for this new tech ? alcatel.com

I bought some shares in january. So far they are up 30% beating the average performance of my portfolio by 10%. I knew that Alcatel has a strong position in ADSL. Actually I bought the shares with profits from Amati a leading ADSL company that was bought by Texas Instruments. But I did not consider ADSL important for the current commercial success of this highly diversified company. But in the latest press releases ADSL is mentioned prominently. biz.yahoo.com I just learned that Alcatel Alsthom is among other things a shipbuilder too. So far I only knew about railway and power plant equipment. biz.yahoo.com Andreas
