Java Spaces

Though not often touted, homogeneous aspects of Java are one of its core strengths for developers. To the extent that Spaces builds on that theme it's another nail in Microsoft's coffin. I know people laugh when they read comments like that but I'm here to tell folks that when the developers move away from one technology and begin to focus on another it has a massive impact. That's what rotted Apple and the antithesis of that is what's bringing it back to life: new application support directly from Microsoft, to be sure; but also Steve Jobs' declaration of support for the new standard in application development, to wit, Java.
