Duane, a couple of things...

1) Define long term. Fortunes can be made and lost many times over between now and "long term"...

2) IF we come to the conclusion that CDMA had advantages for future systems, what is to keep it from being a CDMA not encumbered by QCOM's patent royalties? In the endless universe we live in, are there no other possible manifestations beyond CDMAone? I think that to preclude future CDMA development along different paths would be a bit shortsighted... wouldn't you agree? Is it possible that the wideband CDMA systems now being proposed (even by GSM backers) might be a first step along that path?

3) I think MOT is experiencing problems for a number of reasons. From what I've read, the CDMA problems are software related, and the fact that they don't produce their own switch. It also appears they are having problems at the system integration level. I would however advise caution in assuming that all non QCOM companies will experience similar problems, since companies like Nortel and Lucent apparently aren't.
