Microsoft Tries to Keep Java Programmers in the Fold nytimes.com

NYT weighs in again on the war on Java, or the Java front of the war on the internet.

In fact, Sun suggests that Microsoft's move might be interpreted as a rear-guard action to prevent developers from fleeing to Java's realm of cross-platform development just for the superior performance.

"Microsoft is concerned that Java technology is so compelling that developers will write applications that aren't captive to the Windows operating system," Kannegaard said. "They should be worried because developers consistently tell us that they're two to three times more productive than writing in C++."

But, if the developers can be kept in the Roach Motel California "Win32 API", in all its ever morphing glory, all will be well.

Cheers, Dan.
