That is a very generous offer, Dwight, for everyone to come to your church, and I hope some homosexuals take you up on it. I think if everyone on all sides of this issue got together more, there would be a lot less misunderstanding on all sides.

I don't have any partners in crime. There are people who post frequently at Feelings who are not Christians, and I urged everyone to be polite so many times I felt my posts were getting redundant. I also approached some people privately, in attempts to make sure the atmosphere stayed calm and peaceful, with some limited success. I did not fully understand the origins of the conservative Christian beliefs about homosexuality, and I am glad that they were explained.

I would definitely agree that the state does not have a right to force ministers to preach in a certain way, and would defend freedom of religion vigorously. I do think that some Christians seem to get offended when anyone offers an alternative way of looking at things, even when it is clear the non-Christian is not trying in any way to convert the Christian, but simply pointing out that the world is filled with different beliefs, and why should one clearly dominate all the others?

While some Christians are quick to take offense when an alternative view of reality is offered, I still don't think it is clear how offensive really judgmental religious beliefs are when they end up hurting innocent people. So I would just say again that this is a very polarized issue, which is why I was interested in discussing it.

I do hear Christians saying that homosexuality is a sin, and that homosexuals should not be allowed to teach, just as one example. Here is an interesting article from the San Francisco Chronicle, on the different experiences homosexual teachers have, including getting death threats. Why in a peaceful Christian society should there ever be death threats?
