Finance - Petroleum Report for Friday, March 13, 1998

Crude and heating oil ended lower Friday on the New Mercantile
Exchange, while gasoline settled slightly higher.

Crude had been in positive territory until the very end of the
session as traders short-covered ahead of the weekend. Crude oil
futures had rallied earlier Friday on news that a subcommittee
meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has
been postponed.

OPEC Secretary General Rilwanu Lukman said Friday that the OPEC
Ministerial Monitoring Subcommittee meeting set for Monday has
been postponed until March 30. That prompted speculation that a
decision was more likely by OPEC members to cut crude output to
battle flagging prices.
