jhild, the problem is political. Typically each town/city controls
who the cable company is for them (always suspected kickbacks,
most probably legal). This has led to a gerrymandered patchwork
across our nation. Like a tornado, it hits here and skips there.
If you want cable modems in your town, you have to put pressure
on your cable company (with others). If no satisfaction, take your
gang and get the city council to designate whoever is closest (and
provides cable modems) to your area as the cable provider.
