I am willing to take a wait and see attitude on the trial membership. It could allow some folks to truly see the value before they join. The truly annoying posters post many more than three times per day, and are generally off topic in the threads they post to. I know several people who "lurk" out there that would have valuable information to add. I do see the potential downside, however, and will pay attention to the threads I regularly monitor to judge the impact.
