Don't forget the article is just a prediction.

My understand is that the Internet telephone has one big problem which is that the data packets don't arrive at the receiving station in the correct order as they were sent. Since packets don't necessarily follow the same route all the time. That's why the voice sounds choppy. I don't think speed is a problem but keeping the packets routed in the same direction so they arrive in the correct order is one problem that they will have to solve.

As you know technology moves very fast so I'm sure they will solve this problem.

When you talk about speed then the Network Computer comes to mind which will be the next major home consumer product in the future and that will requires lots of data speed to your home.

As far a ISP's goes I think there is too much competition and that the big boys will buy out the small boys. One company that is eating up the smaller internet companies is PSIX.

As far as ADSL or xDSL goes the only company that is making money consistently is Pairgain. All the rest appears to be struggling to make money consistently.

There are many more companies but these are the two that come to mind.
