Regarding Compaq getting into the "bloodbath" of under-$1,000 sales and other such unsupported criticism, I am sure Compaq looks at market research, competitor analyses, alternative ways of investing, and their costs before they enter a market. I don't think they are perfect and sometimes they mess up, but I have much more respect for Compaq and other high-tech companies who have sustained growth exceeding 25% per year than for the opinions of the Monday-morning quarterbacks who have never played the game.

I discount much of the criticism and hype I read on this thread, because it is most likely misinformed opinion. It is easy to spot because it consists of flamboyant opinions presented as fact without any factual or logical support. There are, however, a few contributors who are worth reading and a lot of links to useful news. It is a signal-to-noise issue. You must separate the signal from the noise. Why to people like to make noise? Maybe because they have no real signal to share and they crave attention.
