Rudedog, I was not aware of the patent situation cpq now finds itself in. In my post I was thinking only of the Alpha chip and the fact that Dec has good R&D and cpq has none. Thanks for the information! dulane

Exactly so. The industry has been commoditized, which we know.
We're constantly talking about delivery systems (BTO versus
channel, for instance) to differentiate vendors on this thread.

A company has to move out of that to be a world leader in
anything. ANYTHING, not just computers.

Though it's not directly relevant, it's nevertheless true that
Warren Buffet specifically excludes "commoditized" companies from
his portfolio, even though they pass all his other very strict
valuation tests (AFTER they pass his tests).
